The one word summary: Hilarious.
While I kind of want to just leave this review at that… I don’t think I can get away with it.
Bossypants is a wonderful collection of… essays I guess is the best term. Essays which come off almost as one person mini skit things. Tina Fey shares stories from her random and amazing (but somehow totally normal) life.
I enjoyed following her rise of badassness from nameless nerd to SNL queen. The Sarah Palin bit is kind of overdone by now but it was fun to live Fey’s experiences with her! There are some that are outright ridiculous and some which were touching. One story that has lingered with me is the tale of her terrible honeymoon, on a cruise ship full of people who hate to fly… which broke.
One slight problem: I bought Bossypants from Audible (US) and Tina Fey (I can’t just call her ‘Tina’… it doesn’t seem right) makes a couple of references to a pdf with pictures. Maybe I’m completely dense, but this file was no where to be found on Audible, which sucks because some of those photos sound hilarious…
Overall: YES. I’m sure you’ve heard lots of people say this already, but let me add my voice to the crowd. Go and listen to this, it is 5 hours of complete entertaining perfection. It seems as though the book was made for audio, scripted for our eager ears, because I can’t imagine reading this book any other way!
And… here are some other Bossypants posts that are made of awesome and who say all of those things that I would have said if I was better at remembering stuff and making it sound smart!
